About digital mental health tools
India has far fewer mental health professionals than it needs, and stigma keeps many people from approaching the ones who are there. Digital tools have filled part of that gap. These guides look at what the categories actually do — guided meditation and breathing, mood and sleep tracking, structured CBT-style programmes, text and video counselling with a registered therapist — and which have real evidence behind them.
We are equally clear about the limits. A chatbot is not a therapist and should not be treated as one. Check that a platform’s counsellors are qualified and registered, and read how your conversations are stored before you type anything personal. An app can support someone who is coping; it is not the right tool for severe depression, psychosis, or thoughts of self-harm. Those need a qualified professional, promptly.
